| | SPVA NEWSLETTER VOLUME 2 New Lab Network to Offer Independent Audit, Improved Security This month, we're introducing the SPVA Lab Network, a group of labs that will participate with SPVA members, prospective members and the SPVA's Technical Working Groups on security evaluations of the SPVA implementation guidelines.
The labs, made up of technicians, academics and researchers who develop innovative security solutions, will work with the SPVA to enable comprehensive compliance verification of the whole payment process. SPVA Lab Network members can grow their businesses through new engagements with SPVA General Members wishing to achieve SPVA approval status on security-related products.
"For example, merchants wishing to implement end-end encryption are currently on their own to determine if the product they are purchasing meets specific security requirements," said Steven Hughes, SPVA president. "The SPVA guidelines and approval program will provide independent validation of the solution."
Requirements for eligibility include:
• Provide information security evaluations in the POS industry
• Authorized Qualified Security Assessor (QSA)
• Provide evaluations in the PIN entry and device security
• Approved by the Payment Card Industry to evaluate compliance with the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA DSS) and accredited to test PIN Entry Devices for compliance with the compulsory PCI standards (PCI PED).

"I am honored to have been elected to the SPVA Board. I believe that hardware solutions are required at the point of sale to take card numbers out of the clear as they are converted from analog data on a magnetic stripe to digits in computer systems," said Carr. "The SPVA Board is tasked with bringing the POS hardware and software vendors together for the good of all of the stakeholders in the payments domain and I look forward to working with all of the members of SPVA to improve the payments infrastructure."
The SPVA also salutes its five new elite member companies - Elavon, GHL Systems, ID TECH, Independent Purchasing Cooperative (IPC) and Voltage Security. We look forward to their involvement in SPVA, with each company lending its expertise to help us shape the world of international payments. Each signed on as an Associate Member, and we hope you’ll take the time to familiarize yourself with them and what they have to offer the organization.
We’re now up to 18 members since our founding last April and are expanding our services including weekly news alerts to help our membership stay abreast of the ever-changing industry and the latest, most efficient means to combat security fraud.
We invite all our members to participate in our Technical Working Groups to help us achieve our mission and look forward to the future development of partnerships with associations and others for education, Webinars and more opportunities to join forces to foster widespread compliance.
